- In The Still Of The Night
Recorded Spring 1995
I think this was one of the first things I ever recorded with
my 4-track. It's a simple arrangement of the classic doo-wop song,
which was redone by Boyz II Men around the time that I recorded it.
Bass, lead, and three backup vocal tracks.

- Comedown
Recorded December 1996
This is the first song I recorded with my guitar (and it
shows). It's a Bush song from their first album, I think it's my
favorite Bush song. Sort of a rockin' tune even though it is on the
slow side.

- Follow Me To Heaven
Recorded January 1997
I arranged this Rockapella song for the Higher Keys, another
college a cappella group I joined following the demise of the High
Jinks. When I heard that Rockapella was auditioning for a replacement
second tenor, I recorded the song using six tracks and sent it in,
hoping for the "sentimental vote". Of course, I'm not a tenor anyway,
so it's a good thing that they didn't call me back.

- Keith Hernandez
Written/Recorded February 1997
lyrics
I was lying
in bed one Saturday morning, and this melody sort of popped into my
head with some words. Then I thought about it some more in the shower
and recorded a quick demo so I wouldn't forget it. I actually wrote
the guitar part a few years earlier (I think in the spring of 1994),
but it lay dormant. Although Keith is probably more famous for
his appearance on Seinfeld than his accomplishments on the field,
the song makes no reference to his acting career.

- Shine
Recorded May 1997
Greg and I recorded this Collective Soul song around the time
that Greg graduated. We used my junky Charvel electric, Greg's
acoustic Washburn, and a MIDI track with drums and bass.

- Hard-Hearted Hannah
Recorded May 1997
This is an old barbershop song that I first learned when I sang
with the High Jinks at Brown. I think they'd been singing this song
for quite some time. I also sang it with Laughing Gas, a quartet I
formed for the summer of 1993. I recorded this version using four
tracks in my apartment in Providence.

- Baby Back Ribs - The Chili's Theme Song
Recorded June 1997
I think Dave and I were just sitting around one day, singing
the "baby back ribs" song from the Chili's ad, and decided to record
it. Dave recorded the bass line, then I recorded the melody and
harmony lines. We called up Greg, about an hour away in Needham,
Mass., to get him to sing the "barbecue sauce" part. Really an
amazing triumph of technology -- the headphones were up against the
phone's mouthpiece, blaring out the first three tracks; the microphone
was jammed up against the earpiece, capturing the sweet crooning of
one Mr. G. Foxman, and the 4-track immortalized it for all time.

- Hypocrite
Written/Recorded December 1997
lyrics
Shortly after taking a new job which involved a 100-mile
commute, I wrote this peppy, feel-good anthem about the trials and
tribulations of the commuter. Have you ever found yourself mentally
berating another driver for weaving in and out of traffic, only to
find yourself doing the same thing minutes later?

- Lombard Street
Written/Recorded December 1997
lyrics
This is a little ditty that Greg and I wrote after I moved into
an apartment on Lombard Street, The Crookedest Street In The World. I
thought it might be an interesting concept to write a song in the past
tense about how "I used to live at a famous address," even though when
we wrote the song I was currently living there (and Greg didn't live
there at all).

- What Do You Want (On Your Piazza)
Written/Recorded February 1998
lyrics
This was one of those songs where I said to myself, "I should
write a song called 'What Do You Want On Your Piazza?'" I actually
wrote the song, mostly because I thought it was a good title for a
song. The song actually has nothing to do with pizza, or pizza
toppings, it's just about baseball player Mike Piazza.
[MP3 40 sec./472K][WAV 40 sec./867K]
- Crazy
Recorded May 1998
This is an acousticized version of Seal's hit song, recorded with my Martin 12-string acoustic and two vocal tracks.
