On Saturday May 25, 2002 the Hartford Fire Department responded to a call for a mattress fire in the halls of a large 4 story H-Shaped Brick on Huntington St. District 1 en-route order a 2nd alarm due to reports of people trapped on the 3rd floor. Engine 5 on arrival reported that he had numerous civilians hanging out windows on all sides. Civilians had already brought a extension ladder and assisted two infants from the smoky floor. Members from ladder 5 & Ladder 3 assisted more then 10 civilians trapped on the fire floor and above due the heavy fire condition in the common hallway. The fire is under investigation and was deemed suspicious.  District Chief Erickson accredited the quick thinking of the responding Acting District Chief  to the quick and orderly removal of so many trapped civilians.
